Meet our first sponsored rider for Ikonic Saddlery- Brett Handy!

I have been riding since before I could walk! I started eventing at the age of five and completed my first recognized event at the age of six. I went on to move through the United States Pony Club system and received my A rating in 2004 with the help of her first Event coach, Jeffray Ryding of Galisteo, New Mexico. Later in 2004 I moved to the East Coast where I competed through the 4 Star Level under the watchful eye of Olympian Darren Chiacchia. In 2007 I competed in the North American Young Rider Championships at the then Two-Star Level (now 3 Star) and helped bring home a Gold medal for my team before moving to Florida to focus on Dressage in 2008. In 2009 I successfully trained my young horse (Money Spinner) to the Grand Prix level and received my Bronze medal in dressage in 2010 while working with Olympic Gold Medalists Leslie Law and Multiple international Gold Medalist Robert Dover. In 2012 I received my Silver and Gold medals and went on to also receive my Gold Medal in Germany while riding and training for Hof Borson in Sprokhovel Germany.

I moved to Europe in 2014 where became the head rider and barn manager for Jospeh Murphy, an Irish Eventer. I also spent 2 years working for PJ horses owned by Dr. Pferdezucht Jacobs in Germany where I was the head trainer for sales horses. After my time with Dr Jacobs, I was invited to intern with international show jumper  Edwina Tops. After a wonderful experience with Edwina my family and myself decided to purchase a facility in Aiken to build our own team and business. We have spent the past two years renovating and building our facility, which now is one of the top equestrian destinations in Aiken!

Our currently farm operates as our home base as we travel to shows with our clients and personal horses. I am very lucky to have a very horsey family that has supported me and helped invest in top level horses for me to ride and train!

I firmly believe that my success comes down to having the right mindset, strong work ethic, and a strong support system. I work hard every single day while balancing married life and being a mom!

Since being in Aiken we have won a championship at almost every local show. With the goal being to take our local wins to the international level this coming show season. We will spend the spring season here in Aiken competing the Aiken Classic Grand Prix at the end of June before we head to Florida for the season to continue training. While in Florida, my top horse Tino will debut at his first CSI** at the World Equestrian Center. I also have two 1.30m horses currently competing in Europe that will join us in Florida to make their own State side debut in upper level show jumping with the goal of having three Grand Prix horses by the end of the 2024 season.  Perhaps the most exciting addition to my team this year is my young five year old who was the only horse of his age to qualify for the 5 year old championships here in Aiken! We have very high hopes for him and have no doubt that he will be an international competitor in the near future.

However it’s not just in the arena that we like to show our skills and commitment to the sport! We have a very active and strong following on social media. As a growing influencer account, I understand that working with select brands that I can stand behind with PROVEN results can help the sport as a whole! I love to shine a spotlight on the brands I truly love and that have benefited my horses as a whole.
